A Christian Prayer for Peace and Against Nuclear War

A note from the heart

In an age when nations possess the power to destroy entire cities in moments, Christians have a special reason to pray for wisdom, restraint, and peace. As we look to President Donald J. Trump and his administration, we can hope and pray that the United States will never use nuclear weapons against humanity, regardless of the crisis or conflict it may face. Nuclear weapons are not simply instruments of war—they carry consequences for families, children, future generations, and the whole of God’s creation. May our leaders always choose diplomacy over destruction, wisdom over anger, and peace over war. And may God give those entrusted with tremendous power the courage to protect human life and pursue peaceful solutions whenever possible.

Heavenly Father,

We come before You with humble hearts, asking for Your protection over our world and every nation upon the earth.

Lord, we pray especially for President Donald J. Trump and his administration. Give them wisdom, courage, humility, and a deep respect for the sacredness of human life. Guide every decision they make, especially decisions involving war, national security, and weapons of mass destruction.

Father, we ask that You place a strong conviction in their hearts:

May nuclear weapons never be used against any nation.

Protect our world from the terrible destruction that nuclear war could bring. Give our leaders the wisdom to choose diplomacy over destruction, restraint over retaliation, and peace over war whenever possible.

Remind those in positions of power that behind every nation are families, children, parents, grandparents, communities, and people created in Your image.

Let the desire for peace be stronger than the desire for revenge.

Give our leaders the courage to step back when anger rises, to seek peaceful solutions when conflict threatens, and to remember that the consequences of nuclear war would reach far beyond any battlefield.

Lord Jesus, You said:

“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”

Make our leaders peacemakers.

Give them wisdom greater than political pressure, courage greater than fear, and compassion greater than hatred.

Protect innocent people everywhere—regardless of their nationality, religion, language, or political beliefs.

Protect America.

Protect our allies.

Protect nations with whom we disagree.

Protect nations with whom we have conflict.

Protect every innocent human life.

Father, guide the United States toward policies that defend its people while also working toward a world where nuclear weapons are never used.

Help our nation be strong enough to protect itself while wise enough to pursue peace.

Let our leaders understand that choosing restraint is not weakness.

Sometimes restraint is strength.

Sometimes peace requires greater courage than war.

We pray for the leaders of every nation possessing nuclear weapons. Soften hearts, prevent reckless decisions, and create opportunities for dialogue and peaceful agreements.

May no leader ever press a button in anger.

May no nation launch a nuclear weapon.

May no family ever experience the horror of nuclear war.

And may future generations inherit a world where these weapons remain unused.

Lord, when fear fills our hearts, remind us that You are the God of peace.

When nations threaten one another, remind us that human life is precious.

When political divisions become bitter, teach us to pray rather than hate.

And when we feel powerless, remind us that prayer is never powerless.

We place our world into Your hands.

Give President Donald J. Trump, his administration, and leaders around the world wisdom to choose life, courage to choose restraint, and faith to pursue peace.

May America and every nation seek peace without abandoning justice, protect their people without destroying innocent lives, and use their power with wisdom and humility.

Lord, let nuclear weapons never be used against any nation.

Let diplomacy prevail.

Let wisdom prevail.

Let compassion prevail.

Let peace prevail.

In the name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace,

Amen.
